Amid the tall, modern buildings, golf courses and luxury resort hotels of the Costa del Sol you can still find spots that remind one of the typical Andalucian charm that met
and bewitched early visitors to this coast.
Perched up in the hills high above Fuengirola, the white-plastered village of Mijas is one of the most iconic of all.
MIJAS PUEBLO, as it is now often referred to, was one of the most charming places on the coast, and therefore one of the first discovered by foreigners.
It's compact cluster of white houses sparkled in the foothills of the mighty Sierra de Mijas when Fuengirola was still a little fishing village, drawing people up the hazardous
road that led from the coastal plain.
Today, the road up to Mijas is quick and safe, though still demands to be treated with some respect, but in the 1950's and 60's it was a torturous affair made up of a succession
of hairpin bends all teetering on the edge of a cliff.
In spite of such obstacles many a famous visitor, from Ernest Hemingway and Gerald Brennan to Jean Cocteau and Frank Sinatra made their way up to what was - andstill is - the
white pearl of the Costa del Sol.

Malaga Airport with it's undergoing expansion plans is only about a 20 minute drive Mijas Pueblo with its fantastic views of the
Costa del Sol is becoming more of an attraction for tourists and expats to get away from the hustle and bustle of some of the more busier and noisier locations elsewhere.
Skiing, is only a two hour drive away to the resort of
Sierra Nevada
should you crave the snow.
